Charlotte lake is the only freshwater manmade lake in Matheran which provides the water to Matheran town. A famous place with Lords point and waterfalls as well as Pisarnath Temple nearby. This lake overflows via a dam built on its west face. The flowing water falls from the cliff deep down and looks beautiful during monsoon (Charlotte Lake Waterfall)
The lake goes quite dry during summer and inside it is another small type of dam. There are plenty of food refreshments stalls as well as sitting place. Charlotte lake is one of the most visited points in Matheran as it is a photographic point providing good views.
This lake is best enjoyed during sunset and sunrise or foggy winter mornings as during noon it can be quite hot. Monsoon showers with clouds floating creates a soothing picturesque moment around the lake.
Average width of the lake is 75m and maximum length of the lake is 320m. Approximate are of Charlotte lake is around 6acres with 1km of perimeter.
