Rambagh Point, Matheran

Rambaugh point is east point which is small and beautiful providing views of Garbett Plateau. Also cremation ground and park is situated nearby. Also Rambaugh point used this route to descend Matheran when Hugh Malet first climbed it through One tree hill route. This is one of the first route to Matheran. It also offers a good sunrise view.

There is a small village at the base in Katwan valley from where villagers trek up to Matheran for doing business. There is a good route down towards the plains. If one has binoculars one can also see the Garbett plateau village. It very good for people who want to escape the crowd and go for long strolls in the deep forest. It is around 2km from market.

Alexander Point, Matheran

Alexander Point is east facing and a beautiful point providing views of Garbett plateau and Sondai. Alexander is an amazing point to see the valleys and clouds.

A pristine point close to Market end. A morning walk to this place will rejuvenate your mind and soul. The point overlooks the beautiful Katwan Valley. One can see the full length of Garbett Plateau as well as the Sondai fort clearly from here. The walk from Market is hardly around 2km which takes around 20mins to this point.

Wallace Victorian Bungalow near Alexander point has four walls of the central hall which were once with paintings done by John Lockwood Kipling, an artist and one of the founders of the Bombay School of Art. He used a pigment that he created from the red soil of  Matheran. Condition of the paintings faded which led to them being gone. Rudyard Kipling, who was born in Mumbai was with him and knew this place was one of the source of inspiration for Jungle Book. The bungalow is now used as a holiday home.

A person named Sujoy Bhosale (+91 7040709566) gives his service for night star gazing as well as usage of his telescope at this point. Also this is a perfect point to see the sunrise from Matheran.
