Porcupine Point, Sunset Point, Matheran

Porcupine point or Sunset point is also one of the beautiful point. It lies on the west end of Matheran. It provides excellent views of the west side of Matheran like Prabalgad and Kalavantin. Porcupine point has surrounding more points like Chenoy point, Coronation Point which provides the same views.

It is a beautiful point esprecially during sunset as it is a bit remote to other points, one has to walk through dense forests to reach this point. It is secluded but peaceful. Also it provides many beautiful views of the valley especially the Matheran mountain ranges. One can see all the peaks from Malanggad to Chanderi as well as during clear weather one can see Alang Madan Kulang and Mahuli fort of western ghats. Bombay Panvel Kharghar Trombay hills, Gadeshwar Lake, can be seen clearly during perfect weather conditions.

Monkeys are abundant at this point. This point is around 2km from Matheran market. Usually this is also a trek entry point to Matheran which starts from Dhodani village at the base.

Sunset point also provides some of the beautiful sunset views. Porcupine named as claimed earlier porcupines were abundant here whereas other story says it used to look like porcupine with thick bushes all over the ridge. This region is also prone to snakes and scorpians. Now a days most of the creatures have vanished. This point provides the most panoramic view of all the mountains of surrounding region as compared to Panorama point. Also this has the most monkeys compared to monkey point.
