Restaurants in Matheran

There are many eating restaurants in Matheran. Some are good some are average. However there are few good ones where one can try eating breakfast, lunch or dinner.

1) Ketkar Veg Restaurant 😋😋😋😋


Ket kar restaurant in Matheran is good for having breakfast like poha upma south indian dishes wada pav samosa misal and usal. They open early morning till evening, Night it is closed. This restaurant is perfect for breakfast and small items as well as reasonable and very tasty. Highly recommended.

2. Gokul Veg Restaurant ðŸ˜‹ðŸ˜‹ðŸ˜‹ðŸ˜‹

Gokul restaurant is a multi cuisine. One can eat breakfast lunch as well as dinner. It has many option for food. The price is high compared to other restaurants but the meal is equally tasty. Highly recommended for eating foods.

3. Ram Krishna Veg Restaurant ðŸ˜‹ðŸ˜‹ðŸ˜‹ðŸ˜‹ðŸ˜‹


Ram Krishna Restaurant is the best restaurant for veg thalis and food items. They have Gujarati thali as well as Punjabi Thali which is very tasty for the price. It is reasonable and very delicious. One can eat lunch as well as dinner here. Gujarati thali or regular thali can be found in afternoon where as Punjabi thali is all round. Very Highly Recommended.

4. Hotel Masemari (Non Veg) ðŸ˜‹ðŸ˜‹ðŸ˜‹ðŸ˜‹ðŸ˜‹


Hotel Masemari is best for non veg lovers especially seafood items and Thali. The restaurant is reasonable may be the cheapest in sea food items and thalis. But very tasty and quantity also very good. Highly recommended for fish items and fish thalis. Not for breakfast or other items but definitely for seafood items.

5. Amantran Hotel (Non Veg) ðŸ˜‹ðŸ˜‹ðŸ˜‹


Amantran hotel is also a good one for non veg and veg thalis as well as food. One can try food here. It is good but compared to other restaurants listed above it is below them. But still one can try for single time.


Charlotte Lake Waterfall, Matheran

Charlotte Lake Waterfall is formed due to the overflowing of Charlotte Lake. During monsoon the lake overflows into a channel over the dam which flows off the cliff making it stunningly beautiful. Earlier there were no railings at the falls but now safety railings are placed over the falls. This waterfall is so unique it can be seen from many points which makes it look distinct.

Walkers Tank, Matheran

Walkers Tank was also used to store water and is like a small pond. Now Ganpati immersions take place in this tank.

Simpson Tank, Matheran

Simpson tank was also used to store water for certain purposes in Matheran. The tank is quite big and still stores water but not used anymore to provide water to Matheran. It is near the Vetaleshwar forest area of Matheran.

The Matheran Primary school is in the main market. The school building is from post british time around 1948. There is a Bejunjee Chenoy Assembly Hall and Sorabji Pandey School Block.

Shivaji Maharaj Museum, Bandekar, Matheran

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj museum is situated near the Echo point entrance in Matheran. This is inside the Ruby Hall premises. This museum is owned by Bandekar where he has started this museum to create awareness and to spread knowledge about the great warrior Shivaji Maharaj and his duties and life stories through carved murals as well as historic ancient ammunitions. Some are original where as some are recreated artifacts. There are 3 rooms in a house which itself is the old time relic but packed with the fragrance of history.

ENTRY FEE: Rs 10 per person (No time limit)

A must visit for every one to go into the history of our great leader and warrior. A necessary visit for the kids to make them learn deeper about our history.

The museum has lots of artifacts and weapons of that time. some are original some are replica but it gives a good idea about what type of weapons and objects were used during the time of Shivaji Maharaj. There are vessels, weapons, old locks, canons, swords, knife, armour, maps, writings, and so on. There are many murals with information narrating stories.

One can visit this museum on the way to Echo point. A caretaker of the museum will provide basic information about the museum. There are refreshments stall outside the museum. This museum is a must visit to get short and important information about Shivaji Maharaj life's events. It is open from morning till evening. Not many people know about the museum as Matheran is famous for its natural points but yes this is definitely included in Matheran and one must visit it for sure.

Karsandas Mulji Municipal Library, Matheran is also an old library and one of its kind in Matheran.

Matheran post office is one of the oldest in Matheran and still functioning. 

Honeymoon Point, Matheran

Honeymoon point is situated on the way to Louisa point from Echo point. This point is small and located besides Gijnai Dara starting point. This point is easy to reach and one refreshment stall is also available at the entrance to point. This is small and provides a closed valley view. Nothing to see much here and just a place to relax under the dense trees with secluded privacy unlike other points. This place served as the honeymoon location to British and Parsis which made it famous as Honeymoon point, hence its name as Honeymoon point.





Kadyavarcha Ganpati, Matheran

Kadyavarcha Ganpati is situated near the 159nm of Matheran toytrain track. It is walkable from the last bend towards Dasturi naka. It is located outside of Matheran and towards the trek route to Peb fort. Only a casual walk of 30mins from the bend will take you to Kadyavarcha Ganpati. This is a rock carved and painted in form of Lord Ganesha. Also one can see this from toytrain. This is also seen from Panorama point in Matheran.






Malang Point, Matheran


Malang Point is situated close to Louisa Point. Malang point is one of the entry point to Matheran via Hashyachi Patti village. This is also a trek route which starts from Dhodani village. This point provides the same view as Louisa point facing westward. The name is set as Malanggad can be seen from this point so its name. There is only one refreshment stall here also known as Osborne house. It is right at the junction where Louisa point and Porcupine route meets each other.
